BCA Introducing - Submissions

BCA Introducing is set to return for a second year at our upcoming conference and our 2025 regional event series. This initiative provides a platform for all our members, whether seasoned speakers, academics, researchers, or first-time presenters, to share their passion, insights, and innovative ideas with the chiropractic community. Inspired by the BBC Music Introducing Stage, which has successfully uncovered and promoted new musical talents, BCA Introducing aims to spotlight the diverse voices and experiences within our community across our in-person events. This is your chance to take centre stage at a very special conference for the BCA, as we celebrate 100 years of the association.

BCA Introducing is not just another speaking slot; it is a unique opportunity for members to:

  • Share their passions and innovative ideas with their peers.
  • Gain exposure and experience in public speaking.
  • Contribute to the ongoing dialogue and development within the chiropractic profession.
  • Inspire and be inspired by fellow members.

Who can apply?

We encourage all BCA members to apply, practicing chiropractors, students, academics and researchers regardless of your experience level. Whether you are a veteran speaker or looking for your first opportunity to present, we want to hear from you. Your unique perspective and enthusiasm are what will make the BCA Introducing stage a vibrant and dynamic part of the conference.

Our 2024 BCA Introducing Winner – James Oldham

James was our first BCA Introducing winner and delivered a fantastic talk on the role of chiropractic simulated cases in recognising serious pathology at Chiro Live 2024. James is a part-time lecturer of Chiropractic at London South Bank University (LSBU) and module leader of General Diagnosis and Clinical Anatomy. He additionally works part-time in clinical practice in Derby. He teaches the Emergency First Aid in Football (EFAiF) course for the Football Association to healthcare professionals, recent graduates and football coaches. Aside from work, he is a football referee, operating within the professional game. His clinical interests include working with patients from all different backgrounds with an interest in public health promotion, practicing his general diagnosis skills. His current research interests are utilising technology to enhance learning and feedback offered to students.

Here is a summary of his topic:

Would you feel confident in recognising and managing an emergency in clinic? Are you familiar with the potential emergencies which can arise in clinical practice?

Within the session, James focused on the recognition skills needed to identify serious pathology and the difference between clinical environments. It highlighted some of the work which James had been doing with students at LSBU in simulating chiropractic emergencies to challenge their recognition, management and communication skills in managing emergency situations. Delegates were able to reflect on their current knowledge and awareness of emergency situations and identify if there was a need for future CPD on this topic.
